Tales By The Sea: All the World’s a Stage-Fright

Tales by the Sea opens again with six tellers.

Come one, come all! The theme is All the World’s a Stage-Fright.

Dale Guy Madison, a Baltimore native and an award-winning educator, LGBTQ activist, playwright, author, doll collector, performance artist, storyteller and, artist-in-residence. Madison received a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Performance Artist Award and the Individual Artist Award in Playwriting for his one-man show, “FREEda SLAVE: Mask of a Diva,” which addresses the masculine and feminine discrimination within the gay community. Bringing the show to Los Angeles, it won the critic’s “Pick of the Week” in Backstage West. In 2010, he debuted his second one-man show, “My Life in 3 Easy Payments,” adapted from his memoir. Madison received his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Antioch University and a master’s degree in Education and Leadership. He serves as an arts educator with the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Kevin (RevKev) Ewing, originally from St. Louis, MO and, after living in many other cities, moved to New Haven, CT to attend Yale Divinity School. He began working as a Professional Organizer in New Haven in 2005 focusing mostly on the Fair Haven, West River and Hill North neighborhoods where he helped them form Neighborhood Associations. He also co-facilitates the Neighborhood Leadership Program for The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. RevKev is an ordained priest currently serving as the Senior Interim Minister at United Church on the Green in New Haven and the Associate Minister of Amistad United Church of Christ in Hartford, CT. He is also the Chaplain for the Pequonnock Yacht Club in City Point. He serves on many boards and advisory committees including the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, where he was recently elected as Vice Chair. He was a 2018 recipient of an Arts Award from the New Haven Arts Council. In his free time, he chills on his sailboat.

Roxanne Reese is an actress, singer and comedienne with many stage, television, and movie credits and can currently be seen as Bernice in “Buddy and Bernice” on Peacock Premium, a short film which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, 2022. One of Roxanne’s greatest accomplishments to date was touring with the legendary Richard Pryor as his opening act.

Mike Lambert holds a BA in Theater from UCLA and is a graduate of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Musical Theatre Workshop. In an earlier incarnation, he worked as a stand-up comedian at the Original Improvisation in New York City and wrote jokes for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Musical theatre credits include regional and original touring companies of West Side Story, Shenandoah, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Mike has performed and written the one-man storytelling shows Homo on the Range: Adventures at Oil Can Harry’s and Dear Mrs. Eddy: Letters from a Bad Christian Scientist. In the New York cabaret scene, he appeared in So Tasty, Too! at The Duplex and Vito’s Necktie at Don’t Tell Mama. He has sung the national anthem for the New York Mets and has appeared as a solo vocalist with Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic at Disney Concert Hall. He has also appeared in KPCC’s storytelling events Unheard LA and Off My Head.

Stan Sellers loves writing stories but hasn’t performed many in the last two years so he’s very excited to be here today. Tales By The Sea is one of his favorite audiences. He currently has a commercial running for Dish Network where he’s looking for his glasses. And yes, he found them. They were in the garage.

Ty Fance – Author/ Producer/ Storyteller – Originally from Houston,
A featured storyteller by National Storytelling Network (NSN) and Storyteller Association of California(SAC) storytelling festivals.
Ty’s stories feature his journey into and through fatherhood; reflections on marriage; and his colorful childhood – rediscovered. His stories are also featured in his book of autobiographical short stories entitled – Off My Head and Over the Fence.
Ty produced a long running storytelling show called – Off My Head which featured local storytellers sharing personal stories that are “sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, but always authentic”.
Ty wrote and directed his short film – Chump City. About a young man’s from Houston struggles to fit in after moving to Compton.
