Greenlight is honored to welcome the Women of Color (WOC) Writers Workshop back for a virtual reading showcasing recent work of their members and selections from the award-winning book, “The 1619 Project”. Readers will perform poetry, nonfiction, and fiction works highlighting Women’s responses to these injustices, its history, and the ramifications.

The WOC Writers’ Workshop® was founded in 1999 by S.Bisi Ideraabdullah in response to the under-representation of women of color in the literary world. WOC Writers’ Workshop®, an umbrella organization of Imani House, also founded by S.Bisi, has expanded to include a global network of WOC Writers. Voices of Brooklyn (2002), is a WOC Writers published anthology which allowed many women from the workshop to publish their work collectively. WOC writers are currently working on another anthology, Boundaries and Borders.

Ashton Cynthia Clarke will be reading passages from the Pulitzer Prize noted book, The 1619 Project, and sharing my own story as well.
